The central coastal province of Khanh Hoa has set a target of welcoming 1.5 million visitors, including 500,000 foreigners by 2010, the provincial tourism department announced.
The locality hopes to earn more than VND1.5 trillion (US$93.75 million) from the tourism sector during the period.
To this end, the provincial People’s Committee recently held a meeting and approved overall plans for tourism development till 2010 and 2020.
Accordingly, Nha Trang City will be developed into a tourism city with modern tourism infrastructure facilities to meet visitors’ needs. Nha Trang Bay and the northern area of the Cam Ranh Peninsula will be turned into two national tourist sites with initial investment capital of around VND4.5 trillion (US$281.2 million) in the 2006-2010 period.
Since 2006, Khanh Hoa holds tourism festivals and events in June and December, instead of August as in previous years, to lure more tourists.
The central coastal province of Khanh Hoa has great potential to develop tourism. The number of tourists to the province increases every year. In 1995, the province received 760,000 tourists, while it welcomed the one millionth visitor aboard a five-star cruise on December 16, 2006.
Khanh Hoa which is home to Nha Trang City, one of the world’s most beautiful bays, boasts more than 60 islands and many sites of interest such as the Institute of Oceanography, the villas of the last Vietnamese King Bao Dai, Ponagar Tower and Long Son pagoda. (VOVNews)
