The central Khanh Hoa province is set to organize the Beach Festival 2007, the third of its kind, in Nha Trang city in April next year with many activities appealing to tourists.
The week-long festival is the most important annual tourism event of the locality, an official from the provincial tourism department said, adding that thousands of arrivals will visit the province at the time.
Besides decorating places around the beach with flower garlands and coloured lanterns, the city will launch a seminar on the sustainability of Nha Trang bay, festivals of fish, masquerade, beer and others, the official added.
As a new twist this year, Vietnamese performing artists will be joined by Chinese, Korean, and Ukrainian counterparts to stir up the city with music shows of rock and hip-hop, among other styles.
The festival has been held annually since 2005. In April, on the occasion of the Beach Festival 2006, Nha Trang received over 250,000 tourists.
Khanh Hoa which is home to Nha Trang, one of the world’s most beautiful bays, boasts more than 60 islands and many sites of interest such as the Institute of Oceanography, the villas of the last Vietnamese King Bao Dai, Ponagar Tower and Long Son pagoda.
The province has become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign visitors, especially since the Nha Trang Bay was named to the World's Most Beautiful Beaches Club in June 2003.
It has set a target of welcoming one million arrivals, and earn revenues of VND700 billion ($44.3 million) this year.
