The central government assigned the city to hurriedly prepare to map out a construction plan for the project covering 120 hectares.

Total investment for the project, however, has not been made available.

Hanoi plans to build 12 modern trade centers from now till 2010, namely, Hang Da, Cua Nam, Nga Tu So, Chau Long, Thanh Cong, Thuong Dinh, Den Lu, Cho Hom, Cho Mo, Truong Dinh, Metro II and Gia Thuy.

The city is now mulling building Bac Song Hong (Northern Red River) commercial center on an area of 200 ha and lure more investment for the construction of shopping malls and chains of stores.

According to the Hanoi Trade Department, the capital city now has three trade centers and 43 supermarkets. (Youth, Gov’t website)
