The People’s Committee of the central Thua Thien-Hue province has okayed a project to build a 36-hole golf course worth VND237.3 billion (US$14.8 million), aiming at luring more tourists to the locality, state media said.
Located in Thuy Duong District, ten kilometers southeast of Hue city, the project covering 145.9 hectares will include a golf course, hotels, restaurants, eco-tourism villages and many entertainment facilities, Thien An Joint Stock Company, the project investor, said.
At present, procedures for the construction are now being completed, the investor also said, adding that the project is scheduled to be put into operation by 2012.
Hue City, located 600 km south from Hanoi and is the capital of the last feudal regime in Vietnam, derives from the quiet Song Huong (Perfume River) weaving its course between rolling hills housing the temples and tombs of the Nguyen Kings.
The imperial capital was recognized as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1993.
Thua Thien Hue saw 667,200 visitors in the first seven months of 2007, up 7.6 per cent from 2006. Foreigners accounted for 310,000 of the arrivals, an increase of 33.6 per cent on-year. (Vietnam & World Economy)
