Tien Giang Food Company (Tigifood): Top Ten Vietnamese Rice Exporters

Tigifood is a State-owned enterprise established in 1984 and trading mainly food and foodstuff. By 1989, the company had attained a high reputation as a rice exporter in Tien Giang and the Mekong Delta as a whole. Current annual trade volume is 250,000-300,000 tonnes of rice. The company is now among the Top Ten rice exporters in Vietnam.
In the past, the company exported only rice and produced PP bags. It now has 12 brands of rice exported to up-markets such as Europe, Japan and Hong Kong. To meet higher demand, Tigifood has increased exports of both perfumed and high quality rice. To improve “quality and reputation”, since 2002 the company has applied quality management of ISO 9001:2000. As a result, Tigifood brand has received high quality award.
To keep pace economic integration, while maintaining rice export as its spearhead, Tigifood has diversified its business activities into petroleum and lubricants, automobiles, motorcycles, rice pancakes with Thuan Binh trademark, mineral water with Suoi Xanh trademark, PP and PE bags printed in six colours, and storage.
In its vision to 2010, the company will develop a new model for cooperatives to ensure a stable and high quality supply of rice, develop famous brands, expand aquaculture and animal husbandry, and produce animal feed. Meanwhile, the company will focus on training human resources to upgrade production and keep pace with the development of the market.
With its business success, the company has increasingly contributed the province’s socio-economic development and environment protection, and donated to the poor and target groups. Due to those contributions, Tigifood has been awarded Second and Third Class Labour Orders by the President, Banners by the Government and Certificates of Merit by related ministries and agencies.
