The U.S. Parliament's member delegation led by Senator Richard Shelby paid a visit to the Hanoi Securities Trading Center (HASTC) and State Securities Commission (SSC) August 22, the exchange said in a statement.
Accompanied Richard Shelby was William Duhnke, official of U.S. Congress's Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Areas, and representatives of U.S. Embassy to Vietnam.
The U.S. senator stroke the gong to open the 669th trading session at the HASTC. He discussed with Vietnamese officials about the development of the country's stock market, and the Vietnam-U.S. cooperation plans in securities sector in the time to come.
Recently, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has marked its cooperation with HASTC by renewing its technical assistance programs to support the center in the future.
The U.S. Department of Treasury also committed to supporting Vietnam in government bonds' management and issue, and aiding SSC to design the secondary market.
The HASTC is managing over 140 listed stocks. It is also preparing to operate the market dedicated to government bonds, and manage the over-the-counter (OTC) shares. (HASTC)
