People’s Committee of central highlands Lam Dong province has approved a project totaling VND104 billion (US$5.9 million) to develop silkworm breeding.
The project will increase the province’s mulberry area by 50 per cent to 8,500 hectares in 2020, of which 80 per cent will be new varieties with expected productivity of 30 tons per hectare.
It will also build an additional 80 silkworm breeding houses and transfer technology to local farmers.
Mulberry cultivation and silkworm breeding is one of Lam Dong’s key economic sectors. The province now has 4,838 hectares under mulberry cultivation, down by 16 per cent from 2007. (Youth)
