Authorities in Hanoi are tightening control over golf course projects, aiming to deal with inefficient use of land.
The municipal government will study the socio-economic efficiency and environmental impact of existing golf course projects to decide which projects will continue.
Projects being built on agricultural land, heavily populated areas or in areas that negatively affect the dyke system will be halted, while, the city will allocate land for golf projects in different areas in the city properly.
Hanoi also proposed that the government lay down specific criteria for golf course projects to be applied across the country. Authorities will not encourage businesses to invest in golf courses in the city as these projects occupy large amounts of land.
The city has 19 golf course projects, with only 9 meeting the criteria, said Planning and Investment Minister, Vo Hong Phuc, at the recent National Assembly session.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment said that it will propose that the government remove 50 golf course projects nationwide for their inefficient use of land.
The MPI said it has licensed 144 golf course projects covering 52,700 hectares in 38 cities and provinces. (VOV)
