Vietnamese lawmakers will discuss measures to cool down the current land fever following the introduction of the city’s construction draft plan.
The land fever is the latest issue to be debated at the meeting of the National Assembly, scheduled to take place from May 20 to June 19, the Dan Tri newspaper cited head of the assembly’s office Tran Dinh Dan as speaking in a press conference May 17.
The authorities displayed the draft plan for the city’s infrastructure development until 2030 to collect public comments from April 21 to May 1.
According to the draft, the authorities will spend billions of dollars in building five new satellite areas and bring the national administrative center to the foot of Ba Vi mountain range, which is about 50 km west of the city’s center.
Since the draft was displayed, realty prices on the west of the city have multiplied as investors rush to pour money into properties here.
“Some people are asking to buy my house for VND200 million ($10,500) per square meter these days, up 300% from three months ago,” said a resident in Ba Vi area.
Vietnamese economist Pham Chi Lan recently warned of bad impacts of the land speculation, such as absorbing a great deal of capital from many industries, thus hindering economic development.
In their upcoming meeting, members of the National Assembly will carefully discuss the city’s construction plan that is designed to cost $60 billion until 2030, especially the feasibility of bringing the national administrative center to the mountainous area.
The lawmakers will also comment on a cross-country express railway proposal that costs nearly $56 billion.
In the month-long meeting, the deputies are scheduled to approve ten bills, two resolutions and comment on six other bills. (
