Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held on September 6th a seminar on consumer protection in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province.
This seminar, together with 5 other advocacy seminars to be held in the North, South and Central in the coming time is organized to publicize the Law on protection of consumer rights, raise the public awareness on rights and obligations of consumers under law and organizations engaged in protecting consumers’ rights. Besides the introduction of the newly enacted law and draft decree guiding the implementation of some articles under the Law, there will be several presentations on topical issues. The case of law enforcement in Japan will also be shared, illustrating challenges and difficulties that might arise in the course of law enforcement, and effective countermeasures which Vietnam authorities will possibly employ. Feedback from participants will be reflected to fine-tune the enforcement plan.
The seminar is under the framework of JICA’s Project for Strengthening Capacity of Consumer Protection Administration with the aim of providing VCA with expertise and trainings that are necessary for establishing effective implementation system of Consumer Protection Law. The project has been conducted since June 1st, 2010 and will be carried out by May 31st, 2012.
