Thua Thien Hue Preparing for Major Tourism Event

The central province of Thua Thien Hue is actively preparing for the National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2012. The province has to date attracted 43 tourism projects with total registered capital of VND49 trillion (US$2.3 billion). Among those, 22 are under way worth a total VND20 trillion (US$952.4 million); meanwhile, the rest are completing procedures for being kicked off. At the same time, preparations for the festival have been made.

 

 The National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2012 is an important cultural event which helps promote both tangible and non-tangible cultural values and the cultural heritage of Vietnam to the world, raising the country’s status in the process of the global integration. Thua Thien Hue Province represents these values.

 

With much experience in holding tourism festivals, the year of 2012 is a landmark for the province when it is selected to host the National Tourism Year and is hosting the Hue Festival. Nguyen Duy Hien, Director of Hue Festival Centre, said, “Preparations for the National Tourism Year and Festival 2012 have been carried out since Hue Festival 2010.” This contributes to affirming that Thua Thien Hue in particular and Vietnam in general are attractive and safe destinations for tourists.

 

After getting approval from the Prime Minister, Thua Thien Hue has quickly prepared for the National Tourism Year with the theme “Hue - Ancient capital city - New experiences”.

 

The national year event will include some programmes such as cultural, sports and tourism festival of ethnic minority people in the central and Central Highlands regions; timber festival with exchange activities of localities which have cultural heritages recognised by UNESCO; international tourism festival named “World heritage meeting place - Hue-Vietnam”, Buddha's birthday and flower garlands and coloured lanterns festival with solemn atmosphere of pagodas in Hue and poetic beauty of the Huong River and Hue Festival 2012.

 

Hue Festival 2012 is the highlight of National Tourism Year 2012; therefore, its activities must show the theme of the year. Different art and cultural programmes featuring cultural values of Hue, Vietnam and the world will be held during the festival. The National Tourism Year will also include many programmes promoting Thua Thien Hue tourism products such as Huyen Tran Temple festival, Buddha’s birthday festival, Hue flower garlands and coloured lanterns Festival and 2012 sea festival.

 

Hue Festival 2012 has the theme “Cultural heritage with integration and development - meeting place of historical cities”, showing that the festival is attached with preserving and developing heritage sites. Cultural preservation is essential for Hue.

 

After the National Tourism Year 2012 was announced in September, many businesses pledged to support Hue Festival.

 

Hue Festival is the selection of interesting programmes of national identities because arts first must be unique and combine and harmonise the traditional and the modern. Hue Festival 2012 will gather Vietnam’s outstanding arts programmes, particularly Hue royal city’s arts and other cultural heritages of localities nationwide. Artists across the country and the world, including those who have performed at international festivals, will attend the programmes.

 

Street art teams and exchange performance programmes will be also organised in Thua Thien Hue. Domestic art groups with the participation of central song and dance theatres and those from different cities and provinces will bring special performances to the festival with new styles of artists.
