MDEC - Tien Giang 2012: Maximising Mekong Delta Agriculture Advantages

The Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum - Tien Giang 2012 (MDEC - Tien Giang 2012) is scheduled to take place from December 4 to 8, 2012 in Tien Giang province. This event aims to seek out solutions and initiatives to utilise potentials and advantages of local agricultural sector towards sustainable development, improve the quality and value in the context of responding to climate change.
 
MDEC - Tien Giang 2012 will include many important trade and investment promotion activities like Mekong Delta Farmers' Forum, Mekong Delta Business Forum, Agroviet International Agriculture Fair, Mekong Fruits and Vegetables Fair, Mekong Delta Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Conference, and other conferences on local strengths.
 
At the working session with Dr Vu Tien Loc, President of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on July 25, Mr Bui Ngoc Suong, Deputy Director of MDEC - Tien Giang 2012 Committee, proposed VCCI to chair several trade and investment promotion activities and business forums during this event.
 
Dr Loc said the Mekong Delta Business Forum organised by VCCI, MDEC Steering Committee, and Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee, will collect opinions of local enterprises and suggestions of international experts for the Government to seek solutions to difficulties, improve business environment in the current tough context, and discuss regional development strategies.
 
He emphasised that the forum will delve into impacts on businesses, particularly tax policies, while ASEAN countries are working towards the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015 with the Mekong Delta as the heart with many key export products of Vietnam.
 
To prepare for the 6th MDEC, the steering committee also proposed VCCI to perform comprehensive research and review on Mekong Delta business activities.
