At VCCI Head Office in Hanoi, an official delegation of Ha Giang province held a meeting with the Embassy of Japan, business associations and organisations in Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to attract ODA capital and concessional loans of the Government of Japan; encourage and attract Japanese companies to invest in Ha Giang, and organise Japanese delegations to survey investment environment and opportunities in Ha Giang.
Mr Nguyen Dinh Khang, Deputy Secretary of Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee, said Japan has supported and invested in local socioeconomic development through specialised credit programmes for small-scale rural infrastructure development, part of a credit agreement between the Government of Vietnam and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Typical projects include Ban Tan Irrigation Upgrading Project in Trung Thanh commune, Vi Xuyen district; Tien Yen - Huong Son Road Upgrading Project in Yen Ha commune, Quang Binh district; and Ta San Clinic Upgrading Project in Ho Quang Phin commune, Dong Van district.
He stressed that, with its potential and advantages, Ha Giang always respects and hopes to strengthen cooperation with Japanese investors. The province suggested JETRO to advise and assist the province in attracting potential Japanese investors, organize Japanese delegations to Vietnam to study the investment climate and exchange information with Vietnamese businesses. The province pledged to cooperate in providing information on investment environment, create favourable conditions for Japanese business delegations to survey the local investment environment, and join forces to develop tours to Dong Van Karst Plateau.
Additionally, Ha Giang hoped that JICA experts will act as a bridge to introduce Ha Giang province to Japanese businesses and the province will facilitate local businesses to contact, meet and exchange with Japanese firms.
"We also hope that the Government of Japan and the JICA will provide investment support for high-tech agricultural development, create favourable conditions for Ha Giang’s students to study in Japan, and build infrastructure to serve inclusive and sustainable growth,” he added.
Ha Giang province also hoped the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and VCCI to support it to approach potential investors as well as assist Ha Giang-based companies to access to Japanese and global markets and organise investment promotion events in Japan.
At the meeting, the envoy to Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam said that Ha Giang province must be aware of its potential, strengths and unique characteristics in relation to other provinces to have development investment attraction plans. The province should consult with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant ministries to create development plans fitting overall national development plans.
Chief Representative of JETRO said Vietnam is now considered the second most attractive investment destination in the region after Thailand by Japanese investors. As Ha Giang has many untapped potential and advantages, it should introduce them in detail to investors.
Japan hoped to cooperate with Ha Giang, particularly in the agriculture sector. The province however needs to focus more on infrastructure like electricity and traffic since Japanese agricultural enterprises pay close attention to this when they study investment, said the representative.
Dr Vu Tien Loc, VCCI President, said Ha Giang needs to further introduce its potential and strengths like tourism and agriculture. VCCI will help disseminate Ha Giang’s potential and strengths to investors via its websites.
