The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week will be held in Da Nang with the participation of senior leaders from 21 member countries, with more than 10,000 participants, including CEOs, journalists and others from APEC member economies. This is a very important occasion and a great opportunity for Da Nang city to promote tourism to the world.
Active promotion
In 2017, many major events have been taking place in Da Nang, including the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. The hosting of this important event will be a golden opportunity for Da Nang to promote its image as a young, dynamic and hospitable city, and raising its position in the international arena. Therefore, the tourism industry together with other branches and localities in Da Nang have been actively preparing facilities and service quality, raising the awareness of people and businesses to contribute to the organisation of these important events.
Da Nang tourism has been actively promoting tourism activities and events on this event, such as launching of the Da Nang Smile Campaign; Conference on Tourism Investment Promotion in response to APEC; making promotional clip at the APEC event, designing the tour programmes for the delegates; building a set of publications and gifts to identify Da Nang tourism to delegates; organising community cultural spaces (displaying food, souvenirs, exhibitions, and bartender performances); and cyclo rides on Da Nang roads.
Leaders of Da Nang Department of Tourism said that the department has been integrating and promoting APEC events through promotion programmes, providing tourist information at the Tourist Information Desk at Da Nang International Airport; building a booth introducing tourist information of Da Nang and a place where members of the press can register to take a tour at the International Press Centre.
In addition, Da Nang is also running a trailer to show pictures of Da Nang that is the host of APEC at the LED screen in the city; frequently posting articles related to APEC events, broadcasting APEC propaganda trailers at the Visitor Assistance Centre and on the tourist information portal, and on the Da Nang FantastiCity site. The Tourism Department has also contacted some international channels such as Discovery to offer support to promote tourism Da Nang on APEC event.
Creating special famtrips
It is expected that about 3,000 international journalists will come to work at the APEC Summit in Da Nang and play extremely important roles in covering the event and promoting the city's cultural beauty. Therefore, Da Nang has designed a tour programme for international delegates attending the APEC 2017 Summit to introduce destinations and cultural features of Da Nang.
There will be six tours introducing the destinations of the Central region, with a focus on attractions of Da Nang like Ngu Hanh Son, Cham Museum, Son Tra Peninsula, Ba Na Hills, Hoi An Ancient Town, Da Nang- Hue Ancient Capital, Than Tai Hot Springs, and Night Cruise on the Han River.
These tours will contribute to introducing and promoting the destinations of Da Nang. The delegates have the opportunity to experience Dang Nang's attractions and introduce those to their countries, and help promote Da Nang tourism.
Human resources are ready
In order to serve the APEC Vietnam 2017, the organisers have surveyed and arranged about 13,000 rooms in 4-5 star hotels and resorts in the coastal areas of Da Nang, capable of providing presidential rooms, conferences and other services to serve the high class guests. Those hotels are the places of residence for the delegates, and also the places where the main activities of APEC 2017 take place. Along with some major hotels, such as the Sheraton Da Nang, the Hoa Binh Green Da Nang and the Intercontinental, which are globally recognised, there are other hotels like Grand Tourane Da Nang Hotel, 5-star Anh Duong-Soleil Da Nang hotel-apartment complex, and Blooming Tower Da Nang. They have been chosen as places for politicians and help Da Nang to present its beautiful image to international friends.
To serve the delegation of APEC 2017, the high-end hotel and resort system in Da Nang will need 13,000 to 14,000 workers. Therefore, since 2016, Da Nang Department of Tourism has presided and co-ordinated with Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the EU project, etc to organise short term training courses, skills for tourism businesses, such as training courses for 4-5 star hotel management; marketing training for tour operators, tourist accommodation, room training courses, restaurants, case management for hotel reception, professional training courses for tour guides, friendly smile for businesses, business households, and tourist buses.
In 2017, in addition to the regular classes organised annually, the Department of Tourism has organised professional training courses for receptionists, chambers, restaurants, supervisors and cooks to serve the delegations of 21 member economies, including businesspeople, international journalists and other participants.
