Uplifting the Capacity of Chan May International Seaport

With the good infrastructure system and advantages of Chan May International Seaport, Chan May Port Joint Stock Company has boosted infrastructure investment, expanded customer base and constantly raised service quality, said Ms. Ho Hoang Thi, Member of the Board of Directors cum Deputy General Director of Chan May Port Joint Stock Company.

Could you please briefly introduce the business performance of the company in the first nine months of 2020, and how the company will achieve its goals in 2020?

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, supply shortage of goods and transport shrinkage, cargo throughput at Chan May Port has also decreased sharply. In the first nine months of 2020, Chan May Port served 214 cargo ships carrying 1.818 million tons, fetching revenue of VND105 billion, and welcomed 14 cruise ships carrying 31,909 tourists and crew members. In the rest of the year or even early 2021, the world economy will be still in decline and importing and exporting activity will be in difficulty. The port is expected to serve 274 ships with an output of 2.4 million tons of cargo and obtain revenue of VND132 billion in 2020, fulfilling 90% and 75% of the figures achieved in 2019.

 What is the significance of operating Terminal No. 2 of Chan May Port?

Terminal No. 2, planned to be operated in the middle of 2021, will reduce pressure on Terminal No. 1 and increase competitiveness of Chan May Port. In the coming time, with improved berth conditions, the port will take measures to optimize berth performance, draw new commodity flows and receive more international cruise liners, helping develop tourism of Thua Thien Hue province and the central region.

In the past time, what solutions has the Company taken to boost business and services and promote the good role of Chan May Port?

To foster business operations and services to create growth for enterprises and to meet the province’s and the country’s development requirements, Chan May Port Joint Stock Company has carried out consistent solutions as follows.

In business management, the company has fully operated Terminal No. 1, appropriately mobilized human resources, equipment and techniques; supervised professional activities in each stage and for each type of goods. The company has also actively looked for suitable partners to advance capital, cooperate in business or lease port infrastructure. While actively controlling fees, the firm has made financial plans to coordinate cash flows and save resources in operation.

In human resources development, the company has effectively streamlined personnel, built and monitored labor norms; and encouraged employees to come up with initiatives for improved labor productivity and business performance.

Chan May Port Joint Stock Company always seeks new customers; focuses on customer care and support, implements promotional policies and price incentives to attract new customers from Laos and Thailand for pulp, coal, cassava chips, minerals, forest products, equipment and others.

While improving productivity, quality and safety, and best meeting shipowners’ requirements, the company has also concentrated on the quality of passenger ship services at the port, always creating a clean environment, and offers interesting souvenirs for visitors.

In addition, the company has further diversified services, focusing on developing support services such as marine, maintenance, transportation, electricity, water and petroleum supply. At the same time, it has reviewed, managed to reduce service costs and offered a flexible adjustable price bracket.

The digitalization trend is exerting a strong impact on the logistics industry. What do you think about this issue and how is digitalization being deployed at Chan May Port?

The smart port trend is increasingly popular, especially at container ports. Digitization helps reduce waiting time, reduce the amount of idle cargo, containers and backup labor, reduce costs and improve port performance.

At present, Chan May Port has not been fully digitized but it has applied technology to management processes. The synchronized computer network has two servers and more than 100 client computers. The website publishes information and images, integrated with ship registration management software for rational ship entry and exit, as well as accounting software, archives, weighing stations and electronic timekeeping. The company has also installed more than 40 surveillance cameras to monitor the port area to ensure good administration and security.

To open a container export and import route via Chan May Port in the near future, the company will focus on modernization and mobilize resources to advance port digitization requirements.

How has the company prepared to catch up with the deep integration trend?

Chan May Port always emphasizes a flexible and sensitive working spirit to meet customers’ investment cooperation needs and increasing market requirements. The company has promoted and cooperated in the development of logistics services, enhanced communications to popularize the image of Chan May Port.
