A tourist information office has opened in the capital city of Hanoi to provide free information on tourism services, from hotels to visa application, a local newspaper reported. Located at No. 7, Dinh Tien Hoang Street, the Hapro Tourist Information Center is the largest of its kind so far in Vietnam.
The center will also provide free Hanoi maps with scenic spots and other places of interest. The opening is an effort of the capital city to advertise its image as well as to facilitate foreign visitors in Hanoi during the APEC Summit.
Hanoi now boasts 34 hotels ranked 3-5 stars, meeting only 70 per cent of international tourist demands during this "hot" tourism season, according to Cao Thi Ngoc Lan, deputy director of the municipal tourism department.
The city targets to greet 5.7 million tourists in 2006, including 1.2 million foreign visitors, up 22 per cent on-year.
