Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved Tan Mai Paper Joint-Stock Company to continue building a pulp and paper mill in central highlands Kon Tum province.

Under the Prime Minister’s instruction, the company is responsible for paying back all capital that the Vietnam Paper Corporation has invested in the project so far.

The corporation will take over 17,000 hectares of material forest for the mill.

The PM September 1999 okayed construction of the mill with total investment of VND2.43 trillion (US$244.4 million).

The mill, to be located in Poko commune, Dakto district, was scheduled to produce 130,000 tons of pulp and 200,000 tons of paper yearly once operational in 2004.

But construction of the mill was stopped in September 2004 because it was said to have been ineffective. (Youth)
