The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will help the southern province of Tien Giang to develop community-based tourism with an aim to boost rural economic development. The project runs from February 2011 to February 2014.
The assistance is part of a three-year project on heritage tourism aiming to bring into full play the important role of the community in sustainable development in Vietnam.
JICA has chosen three localities, namely ancient Duong Lam village (Son Tay town, Hanoi), ancient Phuoc Tich village (Phong Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province) and Dong Hoa Hiep village (Cai Be district, Tien Giang province).
Dong Hoa Hiep village, along the bank of the Tien River, is a typical traditional craft village and a unique eco-tourism destination in Tien Giang with old age houses and many crisscrossed canals running through beautiful landscape.
JICA will help the village improve basic infrastructure such as roads and ports, repair and refurbish ancient houses and assist local people to improve the quality of tourist products and services, and promote tourism and coordination.
