After the first six months of this year, Hanoi had 58 new foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a combined registered capital of nearly US$500 million. The city also had 24 existing projects increase its capital by over US$175 million.
The three largest fresh investment projects are West Lake Urban Zone with an investment capital of US$314 million, Panasonic Communications Vietnam Co. Ltd with US$76 million and Panasonic Electronic Devices Co. Ltd with US$50 million.
Also between January and June, the industrial production value of the FDI sector increased 31.8 per cent on last year. Sixteen out of 19 industries witnessed a rise, especially the textile industry with a year-on-year growth of 130.1 per cent, rubber-plastic production with 127 per cent, stationery with 96 per cent, apparel production with 60.6 per cent and electrical equipment with 43.3 per cent.
In the January-June period, Hanoi welcomed 17 new enterprises to become operational, which generated a value of VND137 billion (US$8.56 million), accounting for 1.7 per cent of the total value of the FDI sector. The best performing enterprises included Deton Vietnam Industrial Joint Stock Co., Bemac Panels Manufacturing Co., Yamazaki Co., Broat Bright Sakura Industrial Co. and Hoya Glass Disk Vietnam Co. Ltd.
