INEXIM Dak Lak: Helping to Globalise Vietnam Coffee

Dak LakInvestment Export - Import Joint Stock Corporation (Inexim Daklak) is now one of the leading coffee exporting and processing firms in Vietnam. Inexim Daklak trademark is well-known in many countries in the world.
 
Landmarks
Set up in 1976, the company built a network for buying coffee, agricultural and traditional handicraft products in the 1976 – 1985 period. With the achievements during this time, the company was granted the Labour Medal of Grade III by the State President.
 
Between 1986 and 1990, the company signed contracts to grow 8,222 ha of coffee, including 32 per cent in mountainous areas, with a total investment of US$10.5 million.
 
In the five-year phase, the company managed to mobilise capital at low interest rates to boost coffee production, helping to turn Dak Lak into the biggest coffee growing area in Vietnam and creating a stable income for the local state budget.
 
From 1990 to 1995, the company expanded its operations abroad and built a rural market, enjoying the strong development. In 1995, the company achieved export revenue of US$100 million.
 
Between 1996 and 2000, competition became fiercer, causing coffee price changes and pushing coffee businesses and exporters into big loss. In 2001 and 2002, the world coffee sector fell into the worst crisis, with the lowest price of US$400 – US$420 per tonne.
 
With great effort, in 2003, it was praised by the Ministry of Trade (now called as the Ministry of Industry and Trade) for surpassing the set target of export revenue. In 2004, the People’s Committee of Dak Lak province praised the company as the most outstanding exporter. It was also selected as a prestigious exporter by the Ministry of Trade. In 2005, it won the golden cup for quality at the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee festival.
 
Affirming the top position
The operation scale of Inexim Daklak has been making quick progress and it is gradually becoming a strong private economic group. Currently, the company has three export processing enterprises, five member companies, three branches located outside the province and a base depot at Di An Industrial Park in the southern province of Binh Duong. The firm has joined hands with Sai Gon Court Serviced Apartments at No.149, Nguyen Dinh Chieu, District 3, to set up Saigon– Daklak Beer Company.
 
The company holds 23.5 per cent of the total registered capital of the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) under the Ministry of Finance. Inexim Daklak has other strategic investors, including Nguyen Hiep Plastics in Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Nien Vietnam Trading Promotion Joint Stock Company in Hanoi and Phuc Nguyen Construction and Trading Ltd. Co.
 
With the motto “Prestige, Quality and Efficiency” Inexim Daklak always pays attention to high-tech investment in the production and application of quality management system under the ISO 9001 – 2000 standard. This has helped it to boost product quality and competitiveness.
 
Inexim Daklak mainly operates in the areas of coffee processing and production. Inexim Daklak’s coffee bean processing technology is among the biggest and most modern in Asia. Input materials are carefully selected from famous areas such as Buon Ma Thuot, Buon Ho, DakMil, CuMgar, Trung Hoa and Buon Trap. Exported coffee products of Inexim Daklak have good quality, meeting the standards of big markets like Japan, Spain, Germany, the US and Italy. This helps to affirm Vietnamese coffee quality in the international market.
 
With these achievements, Inexim Daklak aims to become a strong multi-sector economic group in the next five years.
