Population in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi has increased by 2.6% so far this year, results from the 2010 periodical census showed.
The increase is attributed to the rapid urbanization which has made the city home to many industrial parks, export processing zones, schools, hospitals and state agencies, the census added.
The open residence policy is another reason for the rise. Around 300,000 people from different localities flock to reside in Hanoi per year.
In fact, Hanoi’s population density is eightfold compared to the national average rate. The rapid population growth has brought about many problems in the city, including social order, social evils and environment pollution.
Data from the National Population and Housing Census 2009 showed that Hanoi ranked the second most populous localities with 6.45 million. (Capital Security)
