Binh Thuan Rubber One-member Limited Company is mainly involved in planting, exploiting and manufacturing rubber in two districts: Duc Linh and Tanh Linh in Binh Thuan province. As a member of Vietnam Rubber Group, for the past years, the company has always been an outstanding enterprise, and contributed significantly to the national budget and local social-economic development.
Binh Thuan Rubber Company was previously Thuan Hai Rubber Factory. In 1988, Vietnam Rubber Group decided to establish Binh Thuan Rubber Company, succeeding Thuan Hai Rubber factory from Binh Thuan provincial People’s Committee. In 2010, the company changed its operation model, with the name Binh Thuan Rubber One-member Limited Company.
Company’s business bonded with social-economic development
During its development the company met many difficulties, starting with only 30 hectares of rubber and 30 workers. At present, the company has over 4,500 hectares of rubber in two districts Duc Linh and Tanh Linh of Binh Thuan province; the number of employees is 1,500. The more the company develops, the more the employees’ lives improve. In 2010, the company exploited 5,193 tonnes of latex, processed 6,508 tonnes and sold 6,685 tonnes. Business profit was VND 164,27 billion; average per capita of VND 8.5 million per month; submitting VND 37.55 billion to the National Budget. With such achievements, in 2010, Binh Thuan Rubber Company was one of the enterprises having the highest average selling price, profit ratio and salary in Vietnam rubber industry. The company is expected to exploit approximately 5,700 tonnes, manufacture and sell 7,200 tonnes and gain VND 256 billion profit in 2011.
Parallel to business and manufacturing, economic development activities for people, hunger alleviation – poverty reduction and national defence are also determined by the company as priority tasks. The company’s development has created jobs for thousands of labourers, helping to change local economic life. The company has invested to build hundreds of kilometres of road connecting communes and towns in Duc Linh and Tanh Linh districts. This investment serves not only the company’s business activities but also the local residents’ life.
Currently, the company takes national management on about 1,300 hectares rubber in programmes 327 for 40 years. It is involved in rubber plantation development services such as: technical assistance, product consumption, and ensuring output for plantation rubber. In 2010, the company purchased 1,316 tonnes of rubber plantation and expects to collect about 2,000 tonnes in 2011. It also plans to cooperate with ethnic people to plant rubber, helping them to settle down.
The company also actively participates in gratitude and social charity activities, such as building charity houses and supporting disaster victims. From 2008 to 2010, the company built 44 charity houses with total capital of VND 760 million, contributed to charity, hunger alleviation and poverty reduction funds, and helped those hurt by disasters with VND 1.28 billion.
Fostering cooperation and investment
At present, Binh Thuan Rubber Company has 4,500 hectares of rubber. However, given tasks that Binh Thuan Party Committee, provincial People’s Committee and Vietnam Rubber Group assigned, the company attempts to expand its area by 3000 – 5000 hectares, increasing the total to 7,500 – 10,000 hectares. This is not an easy task since there is not much land to plant rubber left in the locality.
To increase output, expansion is needed, but it is more important to work out measures to raise productivity and plantation quality, thereby increasing output by using better varieties, intensive farming, reasonable use of fertilizers, and applying technological advances in production.
As for market orientation, the company’s Director Nguyen Van Thanh said in addition to maintaining relations with traditional customers, the company will boost market expansion and foster export. First, the company will conduct delegation export and come to direct export in future. To do that, it is necessary to improve quality and diversify products, especially those with competitive advantage, foster communication, introduce the products and strictly observe quality management procedures under standard ISO 9001.
