Hanoi Eyes 12 per cent GDP Growth

The municipal government of Hanoi is urging its economic sectors to accelerate the economic growth to fulfil its objectives set for 2006: 12 per cent GDP growth rate, 20 per cent export growth and job creation for 40,000 people.
On July 10, Hanoi’s Municipal Party Committee opened the 4th session of the 14th Term, chaired by newly elected secretary Pham Quang Nghi.
 
The meeting concentrated on reviewing socio-economic, security and defence activities in the first six months of this year and discussing resolutions to realise targets in the last six months of this year. Accordingly, The municipal government of Hanoi is urging its economic sectors to accelerate the economic growth to fulfil its objectives set for 2006: 11.5-12 per cent GDP growth rate, 20 per cent export growth and job creation for 40,000 people.
 
To obtain these goals, the city will focus on improving the development quality of its industrial and service sectors, especially those related to State-run and foreign-invested sectors. Hanoi also actively carries out nine major working programmes and key projects: maintaining urban civilisation rules and environment hygiene, organising socio-cultural activities, settling urgent people’s welfare matters, executing the Thrift Practice and Wastefulness Fight Law and Corruption Prevention Law.
 
During this meeting, Hanoi’s Party Committee will also debate five major programmes: Building and developing urban management; Developing high-grade service sectors; Developing Hanoian culture and elegance to celebrate millenary foundation anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi; Boosting international economic integration, improving growth quality, sharpening competitive edge of the Hanoi economy; and Developing science, technology, education and training. 
 
In the first six months, in spite of encountering numerous socio-economic hardships, Hanoi is confidence to realise the annual targets. The political stability, security and social order are maintained. The city successfully prepared and organised culture and artistic programmes to welcome the 10th Party Congress, APEC meetings and major public holidays.
 
Over six months, the economy of the capital enjoyed an on-year GDP growth of 10.6 per cent and a 24 per cent export growth (US$1.69 billion), a record growth in export in recent six months.
